There will be another pop-up choir (not Paul Simon!) in Woodbridge starting Thursday 27 February 2020.
Paul Simon's songwriting career began in 1957. It has continued for over six decades and covered many different styles. First as Simon and Garfunkel, and then as a solo artist, he has created some of our best-loved pop songs.
The six-week Paul Simon project will cover many different song styles, all arranged for voice only. From gospel to folk, from South Africa to Puerto Rica, from jazz to Brazilian samba. We will be learning songs such as Homeless, Only living boy in New York, Take me to the Mardi Gras, and many more.
Everyone is welcome, whether you've only ever sung in the bath or are a regular choir member. Ideally suited to those who love to sing, but don't want too much commitment. Chris teaches all the songs by ear in glorious harmony. There are no instruments or backing tracks, just voices.
Joining the pop-up choir for the final performance will be Calling Birds. The group was set up in 2018 to support local charities with fundraising events. They feature a blend of guitar, violin, bass guitar, ukulele, flute, melodeon and harmony singing. Calling Birds will bring a unique flavour to their set of Paul Simon songs.
The evening concert will take place at St Peter's by the Waterfront, Ipswich on Saturday 30 November at 7.30pm.
Don't worry if you can't make all six sessions or if you choose not to do the final performance. You can jump on board the safari at any time during the first two sessions. Unfortunately there are no reductions for those people who can't attend all six rehearsals..
If you can't make the Paul Simon pop-up choir in Ipswich, Chris will be creating a world music pop-up choir next March in Woodbridge.
Comments from previous pop-up choirs:
"I loved being part of this pop-up choir. You really are an exceptional teacher, helping us all to have a go and to participate with enthusiasm."
"I enjoyed this pop-up choir so much. I have taken part in two previous ones which I enjoyed, but this latest one seemed to run so well and happy relaxed. I like having six weeks and not too many lovely songs. I find that I can learn them better and so get more enjoyment from them."
"Many of our family and friends came to watch our concert on Saturday and were impressed at how much we had learnt in a short time. You were very skilful ... and patient!"
