"My first time singing with you. Thanks for your choice of songs, keeping us on track, your sense of humour, especially when we went off track!! Your encouragement and support, hard work and planning. And of course thanks to all the singers who worked hard and produced such amazing sounds. Everyone in the group was friendly and committed" Sacred Songs, Brathay Hall, July 2019

A weekend of glorious harmony singing, fun and laughter. No experience needed – just a love of singing! Ambleside is in the very heart of the Lake District. Brathay Hall, a beautiful Georgian mansion, is set in 360 acres of mature woodland and rolling pasture at the head of Lake Windermere. The peace and tranquillity to be found on the estate, enjoyed by visitors such as Wordsworth, Coleridge and Constable, offers guests a unique sense of space. The weekend includes all meals, tuition and tea/ coffee breaks.
To give you an idea of the kind of songs you will be learning over the weekend, Chris has created a playlist of six classical pieces he is planning to arrange.
Superior twin/ double room accommodation is in lodges at the side of Brathay Hall. The lodges have a commanding view of the surrounding Lake District and all rooms can be either twins or doubles (no single occupancy). All rooms offer a unique blend of comfort and contemporary design, with solid oak furniture, flat screen plasma TVs and wireless internet access in addition to the usual standard features. Each room has an en-suite shower and King-sized bed.
Budget single rooms (Loughriggs) are in a separate building at the back of the main house.
Standard twins (and single occupancy rooms) are located on the second floor of Brathay Hall (please note there are no lifts!), with spectacular views of Windermere. Each room has a plasma screen TV, hot drinks facilities, hairdryer, desk, wardrobe, safe and radio alarms. Each room is en-suite.
We are all familiar with classical choral pieces such as Handel's Messiah, Faure's Requiem and Bach's St Matthew Passion. But there are other wonderful Western classical pieces that will work really well using voices only.
Chris has arranged a selection of fabulous classical works for voice only.
Singing sessions will consist of warm-ups, simple songs that bring instant rewards and also more complex songs in several parts that offer the rewarding challenges. There will also be opportunities to explore the local area and soak up summer sun.
Feedback from 2019's weekend at Brathay Hall:
"Fantastic songs taught in an amazingly inclusive way all in a wonderful setting."
"I enjoyed it from start to finish. The mix of songs from different traditions was excellent."
"Your teaching style is fun, relaxing and skillful. Superb set of songs."
"I loved the fact that within minutes of staring, we were singing in parts. No faffing – just singing! The pace was just right. We cracked on and made progress, but also had enough time to work on each song. Great choice of different songs around the weekend's overall theme."
